Some sterilizing tablet brands use ingredients that can corrode the Dental pod (2024)

We advise our customers against using certain brands of sterilizing tablets with their Dental pods, as they may damage the device. Unlike Zima’s sterilizing tablets, which are specifically formulated for use with the Dental pod, other brands may contain ingredients that form hypochlorite ions when mixed with water. These ions can corrode and compromise the integrity of your Dental Pod.

Why is it important to be cautious with sterilizing tablets?

Hypochlorite ions are highly reactive and can cause pitting and crevice corrosion to the stainless steel finish of the Dental pod’s tank, in a process called ‘stress corrosion cracking’.

Some brands of oral appliance cleaning solutions can form these hypochlorite ions when dissolved in water. Using these will not only damage your Dental pod, but also pose a safety risk.

Why corrosion of the Dental pod’s tank is dangerous

Bacterial Growth

Corrosion creates rough surfaces and crevices where bacteria can thrive, making it difficult to achieve a thorough clean. This increases the risk of contaminating your oral appliances during cleaning.

Reduced Cleaning Efficiency

A corroded tank may affect the ultrasonic cleaning efficacy, compromising your appliance’s hygiene and longevity.

Device Longevity

Corrosion can weaken the structure of the tank, which could cause leaks and even malfunction.

Why to choose Zima’s sterilizing tablets?

Our sterilizing tablets are specially formulated to effectively sterilize oral appliances while maintaining the integrity of the Dental pod's stainless steel tank. They do not contain any chemicals that can form hypochlorite ions, so you can rest assured that your Dental pod is safe from corrosion.
